Eight of the fourteen peaks above 2500 meters in Romania can be found here and another 42 peaks with heights between 2400 and 2500 meters. Moldoveanu (2544m) and Negoiu (2535m) are the highest peaks. In the north they are bordered by the Făgăraş Depression and in the west by the Olt Valley. The nearest city is Făgăraș.

The mountains are home to 50 glacial lakes, of which Bâlea lake is the largest (46,508 m², 11.35 m deep) and the deepest is Podragu (28,550 m², 15.5m deep).

They are a very popular hiking, trekking and skiing destination. The most impressive mountain range in Romania is the perfect destination for everyone interested in spending some quite time in the middle of nature.
