The Monastery is situated on the northern part of the village with the same name. The first church of the monastery was built in 1720 with interior paintings done by two local artists. Bârsana Monastery is a renowned pilgrimage spot in the Maramures region.

The monastery's church is 56 meters high and is the tallest wooden structure in Europe. It stands on a hill, surrounded by a beautiful garden. The wooden structures are impressive, and they reveal the talent of the craftsmen.

The interior walls were painted by the local artist in 1806. Bârsana is one of the eight religious churches on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
