Highlights / General details

The Montréal Planetarium, along with the Biodôme, Insectarium and Botanical Garden, make up the Space for Life. This natural science museum complex, Canada's largest, is a unique combined attraction that invites visitors to reconnect with nature and cultivate a new way of living. The Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium will give visitors a chance to look back at life from a new perspective, millions of kilometers away, to help us prepare for our voyage into the future. Its innovative concept will complement its reinvented approach, helping to distinguish it from other planetariums around the world. This approach will rely on immersive, participatory experiences as it takes visitors on a journey to the ends of the Universe. The goal is to create a positive experience of nature and to encourage them to open up and see the world in a different way. Construction work on the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium began in June 2011. It is due to open in spring 2013.
