Highlights / General details

Discover the history of the colonization in Patagonia on this tour to Fuerte Bulnes, a historical fort dating back to 1843. The road borders the mythical Strait of Magellan, where is possible to watch several species of marine birds such us oyster catchers, geese, different species of ducks and cormorants. The fort is located 45 miles south of Punta Arenas and nowadays is a reconstruction of the first Chilean fortification funded by Juan Williams on his expedition to Patagonia. In the surrounding areas there are the ruins of the Spanish city of King Phillip (Ciudad Del Rey Felipe), nowadays known as “Port Famine” (Puerto del Hambre), because most of the settlers died of starvation. On the way is found the monument that shows the geographic centre of Chile.
