Highlights / General details

This tour provides an overview of 2000 years of the city’s history, a place that has seen the Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Normans and now representatives of every nation come and leave their mark, creating a uniquely varied city of amazing contrasts. Enjoy the benefit of a professional, experienced, engaging and fun guide who will make London's sites come alive as he shares the stories that have shaped London over the millennia. While the guided walk is in no way strenuous we will be building up a serious appetite as dinner time approaches. 2000 years of London history in two hours is hungry work! This is where the Fish and Chips (included) comes in...

The Tower of London - Officially called Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress but known to Londoners simply as The Tower. This near one thousand year old fortress has served as a royal residence, prison, observatory, treasury, mint, and even a zoo. The top of the list of recognizable prisoners includes: Saint Thomas More, Sir Walter Raleigh, Guy Fawkes and Anne Boleyn.

The Tower Bridge - Built at the height of Queen Victoria's reign this is one of the most iconic and recognizable bridges ever built. Before international flights became the norm visitors to London would have sailed to the city up the Thames and this would have been the first bridge they saw as they entered the city. It still remains one of the must see landmarks of the British capital.

London Bridge - There has been a bridge here since the Roman occupation nearly 2000 years ago. Since the Romans built the original London Bridge there have been around 10 bridges spanning the River on this sight. Some were carried away by the tides, others burnt down, others simply fell apart over the years, one was purposefully pulled down by a vengeful king giving rise to the famous nursery rhyme "London Bridge is Falling Down".

Borough Market - Set in the atmospheric surroundings of railway bridges, Southwark Cathedral and the River Thames this is one of London's oldest Markets. The written record goes back to 1200's but archaeological evidence for a market here goes right back to Romans. The cobbled streets of the Market will leave you feeling like you are ambling trough a Charles Dickens novel (or a Harry Potter film).

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre - Have you ever used the expressions: To kill with kindness, one fell swoop, or dead as a doornail? Those and hundreds of other expressions and words (excellent, critical, lonely to name a few!) are attributed to one of the greatest Brits that ever lived. In the shadows of the historically accurate recreation of the Globe Theatre, learn about the less trumpeted side of William Shakespeare and his direct impact on our 21st century lives.

Additional points of interest include: St Paul's Cathedral, The Tate Modern, The Shard, The London Eye, Fish and Chips, and The Houses of Parliament.
