Highlights / General details

Belle Meade, meaning “beautiful meadow,” was founded in 1807 by John Harding. What started as a log cabin and 250 acres grew into a Greek Revival Mansion and one of the largest thoroughbred horse farms in the South covering 5400 acres. Today, visitors can explore the remaining 30 acres and still find a variety of areas to explore including a massive Carriage House built in 1893 and a restored slave cabin.

After your guided tour of the mansion is complete, you will have the opportunity to go to our Winery for a wine tasting. The traditional Southern grape, the Muscadine, and the ever-popular Southern fruit, the Blackberry, continue a 200-year tradition of becoming wine. A full complement of Tennessee Reds and Whites is also available.

Additionally, The Shop at Belle Meade Plantation is so much more than a tourist shop…this shopping sanctuary is a retail destination! We offer many made-in-Tennessee items from pottery to jewelry. You’ll also find an assortment of equestrian-themed items, soaps, linens, books, and an array of Belle Meade Plantation products from Pecan Honey Jelly to Country Hams, Biscuit Mix and Jams!
