Hotel description

Zanzibar was already impressive enough, with its miles of sandy beaches, endless Indian Ocean views, and its long, strange history as an outpost of the Arab spice trade. Now to the list of attractions you can add a rather impressive luxury hotel, the Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski, a brand new full-service resort, sprawling over thirty acres of tropical gardens on the island’s northeast coast.

Rooms are clustered in small compounds, so that the effect is quite a bit less crowded than the usual hundred-room hotel. Rooms and suites are spacious enough but the bathrooms are almost palatial, in keeping with the bathroom’s ever-increasing importance — each has a freestanding tub, a separate indoor shower, and an outdoor shower as well, open to the sky. Private balconies or terraces look out toward the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, and some rooms come with private rooftop sun terraces.

Expect all the contemporary five-star services, from beach club to fitness center, as well as several dining options and a couple of bars. Water sports figure big into the picture — windsurfing, sailing and deep-sea fishing in particular — and no stay is complete without a visit to the Thai-style Anantara spa.

How to get there:

Zamani Zanzibar is about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast – 20 minutes by plane or 2 hours by ferry from Dar es Salaam. British Airways, Swissair, KLM, Qatar Airways, South African Airways and Emirates Airlines all fly to Dar es Salaam. Please contact customerservice@tablethotels.com to arrange a transfer.
