If you’re looking to get away from it all, you could do a lot worse. Tarifa is already the southernmost point in Europe, an ambitious stone’s throw from Africa via the Straits of Gibraltar. And tucked away in the picturesque old quarter of town is a seventeenth-century home converted into a two-suite guest house: Silos Arte y Relax.
This is, of course, Tablet Hotels and not Tablet Guest Houses. But we’re willing to stretch our definitions when it’s called for, and it just so happens that Silos Arte y Relax offers an experience that’s more complete than many larger hotels. The two lodgings, the Loft and the Suite, are exceptional, that much is a given. The look is beyond eclectic, almost overwhelming — the owners, a pair of artists, have packed these two rooms with an entire hotel’s worth of character.
Then there’s the courtyard, the roof garden with its little plunge pool, and the organic restaurant, in a space carved out of an old grain silo. Did we mention all this is just for two rooms? An art gallery shows work by your hosts, among others, and there’s even a spa, of a sort: along with a plain old massage you can have your tarot read, something or other done to your chakras, and even take in a bit of the old orgone therapy, something vanishingly few hotels can offer. And on a more prosaic note, it's got parking — it might not sound important now, but spare a thought for us when you're driving Tarifa's maze of tiny streets.
Travelling with Kids
Guests over the age of 6 are considered adults. Some rooms accommodate 3 or more. The "the Suite" room sleeps up to 6 guests. For crib/cot, must book "the Suite" room or larger. For 2 adults + rollaway bed, must book "the Suite" or larger. For 2 adults + 2 kids beyond crib age, must book "the Suite" room or larger. Connecting rooms available. Can be confirmed upon reservation.
Cribs are available for an additional fee of 18,19. Roll-away beds available for an additional fee of 38,52. No additional charges for kids beyond crib/roll-away.
Fenced in pool available that allows kids. Babysitting services provided by screened hotel personnel at €10 per hour. The restaurant is kid-friendly with high chairs and a kids menu. Room service offers a kids menu. Horse riding - 5 year olds surf wind- and kite surf lessons - 5 year olds.
Emergency amenities include diapers, milk bottles, bottle warmer and electric baby monitor..
