Hotel description

The Lingotto building is Turin's world-famous industrial landmark, the one-time Fiat factory with the testing racetrack on the roof, and the setting for an unforgettable scene in the original Italian Job. This '20s masterpiece has been repurposed, and today lives a multifarious existence as a leisure and shopping center, an art gallery, a convention center, and now a boutique hotel, designed by the same Renzo Piano who oversaw the refurbishment of the rest of the Lingotto building.

The Art+Tech name is a bit of branding, meant to distinguish Le Meridien's boutique offerings from their more traditional luxury hotels - in fact the Lingotto is home to one of the Le Meridien “classic” hotels (confusingly named Le Meridien Lingotto, minus the A+T tag). We have seen hotel chains enter the boutique market before, with mixed results, but we must report that the Art+Tech template is an impressive one.

The centerpiece of the hotel's design is the grand hall, extending from the ground floor all the way to the old factory's glass ceiling. Glass elevators transport guests to the thoroughly modern guest rooms, complete with plasma-screen TVs, high-speed internet and multi-jet showers. Rooms are furnished with pieces by a number of contemporary Italian designers (and the ever-conspicuous Mr. Starck) and are decorated in a crisp, minimal style. You are probably expecting to see lots of white, and you will not be disappointed.

Facilities are shared, to some extent, with the other Le Meridien hotel - suffice to say that between the offerings of the hotels, and the wealth of shopping and dining options in the Lingotto complex, you will be well taken care of. Take a moment to visit the old Fiat testing track; though closed to automobiles, and to the public, it is open to hotel guests eager to test their own running performance.
