Pacaya has regular eruptions since 1965. Most of them are strombolian eruptions, but there have also been some powerful eruptions, where evacuation of numerous villages was needed. It is 2,552 meters (8,317 feet) high and it is among the favourite volcanoes for climbing in Guatemala. It best to be very well informed before climbing, as several deaths have occurred because of eruptions. There are plenty of tour operators in Guatemala, taking groups to visit the volcano.
On a clear day, the volcano's eruptions can be seen from Guatemala City, offering spectacular views.
