( No user reviews )

Lake Nakuru National Park surrounds Lake Nakuru, a soda lake in the Southern Rift Valley region of Kenya.

Understand

Climate

The Climate is really pleasant all throughout the year. Tourists can face an occasional rain but the temperature is around the lower 20 deg C from January to December.

Landscape

Lake Nakuru National Park has plains, hills, waterfalls and a big lake which forms a really beautiful landscape in the park.

Flora and Fauna

You can see around 400 species of birds in Lake Nakuru National Park. On a lucky day you can see lions, rhinos, giraffes, antelopes, leopards and cheetahs. You can also find millions of pelicans and flamingos enjoying the fish around the banks of the lake.

Getting there

If you are traveling from Nairobi, then leave at around 6:30AM. On the way to Nakuru you can also have a great view of the Rift Valley. It is a 30 minute drive to a view point at 2200 Meters above sea level and from here you can get a spectacular scene of the volcanoes, Suswa and Longonot, on the road to Nakuru. Traveling in the park ideally could take you a full day. Reach the National Park early around 9AM and leave the park at 5PM. It might take you few minutes to get your ticket and the vehicle checked. The drivers also need to carry the permit for the vehicle. Its advised to have some food or snacks before getting in but never leave your vehicle open or else the baboons might attack searching for food.

Sleep

Lodging

Accommodation around the lake includes Lake Nakuru Lodge and Lion Hill Camp. It is advised to reach the national park in the evening if you are planning for accommodation and then spend the whole of next day at the park.

Buy

You can't find anything inside the park. If you have the guest house booking for the night then you can find something to eat. Please buy lots of water before your enter he park. It is advised not to carry any cigarettes when inside the park. The park rangers don't like it. There is a small restaurant outside the park where you can get snacks.
