Hotel description

It may have been easier to remember the name of this place back when it was called Jurys. But it’s worth noting that now, under its new name, it’s still family-run — the Doyle family not only owns but also operates the Back Bay Hotel, as well as a few others in Ireland and the UK, which is a situation that’s becoming more and more rare.

Of course we wouldn’t even mention it if not for the fact that the Back Bay Hotel, regardless of ownership, is among Boston’s most impressive hotels. If it looks a bit imposing from the street, it’s supposed to; this was once Boston’s police headquarters. But inside it’s far from institutional, in fact downright luxurious, the décor classic but never stuffy, and all comforts accounted for: terry robes, towel heaters, laptop safes and Korres bath products.

The restaurant and bar are local favorites in their own right. The Stanhope Grille serves upscale American cuisine, locally sourced, and Cuffs, the Irish bar, is among the top destinations in town. And much of what’s best about Boston is located within walking distance of the Back Bay, from Fenway Park to Copley Square to the downtown Freedom Trail.
