Hotel description

Some spa resorts indulge their guests in an unceasing orgy of pampering, enough mud masks, seaweed wraps and steam baths to turn adult skin to porcelain; others, taking a more masculine approach, simulate to an alarming degree some sort of boot camp or reality-television contest of attrition. The Miraval resort’s program spans both extremes, from the most delicate beauty treatments to the most challenging physical feats.

There are beauty treatments, to be sure, for the lady to enjoy while the gentleman partakes of a round of golf. Alternately, there’s a unisex regime of deep tissue massage, nutrition consultations, yoga, and physical challenges such as mountain biking, horsemanship and wall climbing — as well as mental and emotional workshops ranging from Deep Mindfulness to Passionate Lives.

Accommodations are luxurious, the 118 guest rooms decorated in a contemporary Southwestern style, with all the modern conveniences. Some feature fireplaces and patios with stunning views of the surrounding Sonoran desert and the Santa Catalina mountains.

Meals are included, and the cuisine is suitably health-conscious, using fresh natural ingredients, and cooking classes are available for those who wish to take a bit of the Miraval dining experience home. The focus on health and relaxation brings with it certain austere measures — there’s no smoking allowed, and alcohol is served only after the day’s activities. Children are not permitted, and though there’s no minimum stay requirement, it’s recommended that guests stay several days in order to take advantage of all Miraval has to offer. All in all it’s a remarkably thorough escape — just half an hour from Tucson and two hours from Phoenix, it nevertheless feels a world apart.

How to get there:

Miraval is approximately a 50 minute drive from Tucson International Airport and less than two hours from Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport. The hotel requires transportation information no less than 72 hours before your arrival at the airport. Guests arriving at the resort after 9:00 pm will receive a late night snack in their room. Please contact customerservice@tablethotels.com to arrange complimentary airport transfers from Tucson International Airport.
