Hotel description

Kitsch still runs rampant in Brighton, as an ironic nod to this seaside town’s progressive loss of status, as first rail and then air travel made more exotic destinations suddenly accessible. You’ll find none of this irony on display at the Hotel Una, however; this place dispenses with the role-playing and lets you get on with the simple task of enjoying yourself in London-on-sea.

To that end it’s restrained in style, almost muted, thoroughly grown-up. It’s owned and operated by a married couple, an architect and an interior designer, so perhaps a keen and sober decorating eye is to be expected. And while the rooms tend toward the smallish, their simplicity helps them feel uncluttered and airy.

The Una is no luxury hotel — its closest competitors are the funkier boutiques and a wealth of bed-and-breakfasts — but life is by no means difficult here: bathrooms are supplied with Molton Brown products, and massage and spa treatments are offered, in-room if you so desire. Soon a restaurant will join the Una’s popular cafe/bar — until then, though, it’s out into the streets around Regency Square, which you’ll quickly find suffer from no shortage of options.
