Hotel description

The Inn at Palmetto Bluff may be the first East Coast hotel from the California-based Auberge Resorts, but it would take a keen eye indeed to notice any Napa Valley influence here — this place, though brand new, is absolutely authentic, its fifty clapboard cottages built in the local Low Country style of the South Carolina coast. This is the old South, make no mistake: you’re midway between Hilton Head and Savannah, Georgia, and that famed Southern hospitality is on display from the moment you check in.

As for the accommodations, anyone familiar with the other Auberge hotels knows more or less what to expect — a certain sort of up-to-the-minute contemporary luxury, casual yet decidedly upscale, is the Auberge group’s bread and butter. And those not yet familiar, you can take our word for it: expect pine floors, fireplaces, massive plush beds and palatial bathrooms with separate steam showers and bathtubs.

What’s there to do here, besides just disappear? Spa treatments are a perennial favorite, administered in treatment rooms open to the breeze. The May River Golf Club is one of the region’s finest, featuring a Jack Nicklaus signature course. And the natural setting of the Low Country is an attraction unto itself — options include yachting, kayaking, nature walks, and trips to the hotel’s beach club on Daufuski Island.

How to get there:

“From Savannah Airport:

Exit airport and follow signs to I-95 North. Take I-95 North to Exit 8 in South Carolina (≈ 16 miles). At Exit 8, go right on Hwy. 278 East and proceed to SC 170 (≈ 8 miles). Exit right on SC 170 and follow it to the first stop sign (≈ 4 miles). Turn left on SC 46 and proceed to Palmetto Bluff entrance (≈ 2 miles). The entrance to Palmetto Bluff will be on your right; proceed to Welcome Gate.” — Directions courtesy of The Inn at Palmetto Bluff
