Hotel description

This place has got to be one of the best-kept secrets we’ve ever seen. The sign which identifies this residential building as the site of Art Nouveau hotel gives no clue, and may even scare you off. In fact, it takes a trip up an antique iron-gated lift to the fourth floor to even find the front door, which itself looks like the entrance to an apartment. Once inside, though, it’s a different story—however unassuming the exterior may be, the interiors are some of Berlin’s most stylish hotel spaces. The feeling is rather like a more modern and understated bed and breakfast, or one of the most intimate hotels you’ve ever seen. Each room is slightly different, but all are handsome, with hardwood floors, contemporary furnishings, and sumptuous beds. The owners, Gerd and Christine Schlenzka, are on hand, fluent in English, and ready with restaurant recommendations, as the only meal served is a breakfast buffet in the hotel’s salon. Coming soon is a hotel library, as the Schlenzkas expand their hotel further throughout the building. For now, though, you can socialize or relax in the salon, pouring your own drinks from the honor bar. The Kurfürstendamm, Berlin’s upscale retail district, is a short walk away, as are the restaurants of the Savignyplatz. Potsdamer Platz and Berlin-Mitte are also easily accessible, in case you want a taste of the fast-paced life; fortunately at the end of the day you’ll be able to quietly leave it all behind.
