Hotel description

There are humbler riads, designed to feel as cozy and low-key as a private home, or at least as cozy and low-key as a five- or ten-bedroom walled mansion could possibly feel. And then there are riads like Demeures d’Orient. This place doesn’t bother itself with trying to create that home-spun “our house is your house” vibe — it’s a palace, and as close to a proper full-service hotel as you’re likely to find in the riad-hotel genre.

Here they’re not sticklers for absolutely authentic Moroccan style. That “orient” isn’t in the name by accident — the style here spans everything from Marrakech to Arabia to China and India, if you look at it just right. It’s certainly comfortable, even luxurious, but special attention has clearly been paid to the visuals.

And in a town this chaotic a bit of order at reception is appreciated. Some riads don’t bother with the classic reception desk, opting instead for something more informal. but Demeures d’Orient will see to it that you’re properly oriented (sorry) upon arrival — and their decidedly professional philosophy carries over into the spa, which is one of the most complete you’re likely to find anywhere in the medina.
