After celebrating Christmas at home, pack up your new socks and catch a flight to Auckland on Boxing Day for the start of your epic New Year adventure.

Countdown to midnight in the city

your room at the westin

Overlooking the stunning Viaduct harbour in the heart of Auckland, your base for the first of your new year celebrations is the Westin Auckland Lighter Quay.

Once you’ve settled into your chic new surroundings, spend a couple of days exploring New Zealand’s biggest city.

We recommend taking in a traditional Maori performance or spending a day at Ayrlies gardens (perfect for a stroll or an afternoon picnic).

When you're done taking in the sights, head back to your hotel spa for some serious 'me' time.  We guarantee after a day or two of pampering, you’ll feel rejuvenated and ready to face the new year.

New year part one

When midnight on December 31st rolls around, watch the spectacular fireworks from your hotel, or head downstairs to the Viaduct in the harbour and join the party.

There you can grab cocktails at one of the many bars and watch live local music and DJ's as you dance the night away.....this is only the beginning.

travel back in time and do it all again

This is where the clever bit happens. After the revelry of the new year is over (for the first time), catch a few hours shut eye before your late-morning flight.

Fly from Auckland on January 1, 2010 and cross the International Date Line for a brief stop in Rarotonga before arriving on Aitutaki (one of the Cook Islands) on December 31st, 2009.  Pretty neat if we say so ourselves.

This time, you’ll be checking into a beachfront bungalow at the Pacific Resort Aitutaki.

This small secluded island is limited to only 27 luxurious beachfront bungalows all with panoramic views of the world famous lagoon.

New year part two

Take in your last meal of 2009 (really this time) at the Rapae Bay Restaurant: think fresh seafood or spring lamb with ginger, garlic, chilli and soy.

Then get ready to celebrate the New Year all over again, except this time skyscrapers are replaced with turquoise waters and white sand.

Now that you’re in 2010 (there’s no going back this time), spend a few days relaxing on the island. Try some snorkelling or kayaking around the lagoon, or how about a Serenity Facial at the spa? Then it’s back home to tell all your friends about your blockbuster, time travelling new years.
