Don't start thinking of sandy beaches, because you won't find any here. But the scenery is so incredibly amazing that you will immediately start loving these pebbled beaches. Can you imagine swimming in the sea and be surrounded from all sides by mountains? You can think all you want, but until you have experienced the real think, nothing you imagine will be enough.

The water is so clear that when you swim, you can see all kinds of fishes swimming under you. And you don't even need to snorkel to be able to admire the underwater life, everything is so clear that you can see it from the surface. At night you can choose from the many terraces down by the sea and taste some great fish recepies.

If you're not the "laying in the sun all day" type, there are plenty activities to chose from. You can go parasailing, rent a jet ski and go explore the sea, or if you feel up to it, you can rent a canoe boat and test your skills. Other options are diving, snorkeling and rafting on a mountain river.
You can also go on a cruise on one of the surrounding islands, there are boats leaving every morning from the harbour, just make sure you have a reservation.

A beautiful way to spend the evenings is to go to the harbour, and then take a walk on the many narrow streets from the old town of Makarska. All the streets are dotted with restaurants and cocktail bars, one will for sure suite your tastes.
