One of the most distinctive buildings of the 20th century, a landmark not only for a city, but for a whole country. Danish architect Jørn Utzon received the Pritzker Prize in 2003, for creating this building. Today, the Sydney Opera House is the busiest art center in the world, with over 1,500 performances per year and 7 million visitors.

The building's design is modern expressionist, with a roof formed out of shell shaped precast concrete panels, each of them being a section of a hemisphere. They are covered with 1,056,006 glossy white- and matte-cream-colored Swedish tiles. It is 183 meters (605 feet) long and 120 meters (388 feet) wide.

The four main companies which perform on its stages are Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Sydney Theatre Company and Sydney Symphony with 1.2 million people attending the shoes each year.
