Red Lake (Lacul Roșu)

( No user reviews )

General

The name of Red Lake (Lacul Rosu) comes from the reddish alluvium deposited in the lake by the Red Creek. The lake is located in the Oriental Carpathians, surrounded by Ceahlau and Hasmasu Mare Mountains. It is a unique region in the world, where the ever green pine forests and the fresh air gives perfect relaxation conditions. It is the only natural dam lake, created in 1837 in the Bicaz Valley.

The Red Lake-(30 km from Gheorgheni and 30 km from Bicaz), the biggest natural dam lake in Romania. It formed in the summer of 1837 by the collapse of a huge tract of soil from the north eastern side of the Ucigasul Mountain. This -alpine sea-, in miniature, is a joy for the travelers coming to admire it. The area surrounding the lake was declared florist and faunistic reservation.
