Its construction started in 1980, with the demolition of an entire village. 500 people have been resettled. It opened its gates on May 17, 1992. Maintaining its number five position in the top, the Munich Airport is best known for its easy transportation, thanks to its short distances between gates and to its compact layout. It is the second busiest airport in Germany, after Frankfurt Airport, handling 34.5 million passengers in 2008.

Munich airport offers everything you need for you to start your journey relaxed and and with no worries. Among passengers favourite activities are the casinos and shopping at the Munich Airport Centre (MAC). This area also connects the two terminals and hosts an underground shopping mall and the train station.

The 60 seat cinema runs shows on aviation themes, allowing passengers to see how an airport operates and how the air traffic control does its work. You can enjoy the shows for free, every day from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.
