Ponte dei Sospiri in Italian, passes over the Rio di Palazzo and links a former prison to he interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace, a Gothic palace in Venice. By the time the bridge was built the days of inquisitions were over and only small-time criminals were imprisoned, but still the bridge got the name of Bridge of Sights in connection to the fact that the city view from the bridge was the last thing prisoners saw before imprisonment.
