General

Kakadu is a major attraction for any bird watcher, with over 350 species recorded including five endemics: Partridge Pigeon, Chestnut-quilled Rock-pigeon, Banded Fruit-dove, Hooded Parrot, and White-throat Grasswren. Australia's rich bird palette also includes Radjah Shelduck, Great-billed Heron, Pied Heron, Red Goshawk (rare), Black Falcon, Chestnut Rail, Chestnut-backed Button-quail, Little Curlew, Oriental Plover, Oriental Pratincole, Northern Rosella, Rainbow Pitta, Black-tailed Treecreeper, Green-backed Gerygone, White-lined Honeyeater, Red-headed Honeyeater, Buff-sided Robin, Mangrove Golden Whistler, Sandstone Shrike-thrush, Paperbark Flycatcher, Long-tailed Finch, Yellow-rumped Mannikin, Gouldian Finch, and Yellow White-eye.
Around one third of Australia's entire collection of bird species - around 280 - lies in Kakadu National Park, Arnhem Land, the Mary River and the Gove Peninsula listed World Heritage.
Most of the tours offer plenty of possibilities to see wild bird life, but also specialised birdwatching tours are available for those looking for a more profound experience. Several 'hot spots' are reachable within driving distance, while spectacular sightseeing is best early in the morning or in late afternoon.
rain-forest, rare migrants and other wildlife make the perfect topping of this delicious birding experience.
