Treat yourself with a meal at Alinea, the 10th restaurant on the San Pellegrino list of best restaurants in the world. Chef and owner Grant Achatz says that people should not feel like they are under a microscope when entering his restaurant, which is why he's trying to keep the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable. There is no big, flashy sigh hanging over the entrance, so you feel like you're entering a friend's home and not a restaurant.
The decor of the restaurant is minimalistic and modern, with oversized tables and no tablecloths, so all your attention focuses on the food. You can choose between the Tasting menu and the Tour menu, which is composed of at least twenty dishes. As Achatz is constantly re-inventing and chancing combinations, the Tour menu changes monthly. You will never feel full after the 23 course Tasting menu, but you will for sure feel dazzled. Each dish is an explosion of flavours, over a period of five hours.
Achatz refers to his cuisine as progressive American, even though others call it molecular gastronomy.
